Travel and the Ethereal - Our first solo photo gallery show!

One of the Centerpieces of our show

Travel and the Ethereal  is our first solo photo gallery show! Beginning Nov. 2nd,  16 of our most treasured images displayed in a  limited engagement at the wonderful Miraflores winery in California's Sierra Foothills. Artists' receptions November 2nd and 3rd at 1PM each day, with wine and one-on-one time with Juliet and me. This is one of the proudest moments of my adult life and 2+ years of devotion to this craft to make it happen. If you are in Northern California we would love to see you, and please tell your friends. It is because of the amazing support I have received on this blog that I am at this point in my career. A huge thank you to my amazing readers and brilliant colleagues.

Here is the release from Miraflores  -

Travel and the Ethereal — A mobile photography exhibition
Michael and Juliet Housewright are mobile phone photographers
inspired by years of foreign travel. Their work has been featured
in yearly shows in Denver, Vermont, and the outstanding online publications,
Your Life is a Trip, and Hipstography. Their first exhibition at Miraflores
features images shot using only an iPhone in Hong Kong, Italy, California,
Utah, Vietnam, and Colorado. Their work often blurs the lines between
the concrete and the abstract. What is apparent immediately is how close
the viewer feels to the subjects of the photos and how incredible the sense
of place has been captured using only a mobile phone. You may see more
of their work at www.theblissfuladventurer.com or at Miraflores. A reception
for the artists both days at 1 pm.

New Social Media Outlets for The Blissful Adventurer

A Room with a View

Old Canon Powershot - Snapseed - Glaze - Vintage FX - Image Blender

Readers, at long last I have the occasion to post again. I want to take a few moments today and introduce you all to some new social media outlets for The Blissful Adventurer.

First of all, I want to say that Instagram is a tremendous creative outlet for me and my photography. I use it as a photo lab to experiment with new techniques and ideas. I post DSLR and iPhone images alike to my Instagram gallery, and I encourage all of you who love photography to dive into the app and follow my work. I know many of you are already there, so please let me know if I have missed you and I will begin to follow you immediately.

I also want to introduce you to a new website for experiential travel writing called Your Life as a Trip . I will be a contributing writer for this wonderful publication and my first piece comes out on April 9. Please take a look at the site and enjoy the many talented writers who contribute to this wonderful site. I will be posting here to my blog everyday prior to April 9 in hopes that we get a big push for my initial outing with Your Life as a Trip .

For today I want to share some of my experimental images with you. Those of you who follow my Facebook Page  have likely seen all of these images; however, here they will be higher resolution and much larger so I hope you will take a moment and enjoy them up close.

Montara State Beach - Haiku and Variations

Montara State Beach sits just north of the town of Half Moon Bay, California along the historic Pacific Coast Highway 1. Today's post is dedicated to a friend who I learned recently was severely injured in a fall and is fighting to regain the ability to walk. I hope the spirit imbues me with something cool today. This will not be strict Haiku so if you are a purist, you might want to leave now :-)

Scratching at the surface now

trying hard to understand how

so much that goes misunderstood

and why it leads to doubt

perhaps

that doubt is only in me

and I hope it is true

Shucks is a word

that should not have left so soon

the vernacular's spinning carousel

why is such a good word

gone from playgrounds

and school halls

aww shucks, jive my corn

and whittle me a new word

damn this battery

said the man with the apple

she sighed and kept painting

all alone we were

at the end of the afternoon

on this lovely stretch

no worries

while in other parts

there were big concerns

Indian music

Mexican food

Georgian wine

punitive measures

lying liars

food fights

fiction

and fucking

The Happiest Place in the World?

A boy on a rock

Just like that came the fog

Pelicans in Formation

Temperature Plummets

Day is Dusk

The wildest flowers

cannot for a moment

grasp the wildness

of the nearby sea

combers combing

for no reason but to comb

so many images from a day so unscripted

from a life so uncontrolled

Just as it came, the fog lifted

The hard work to endure the dark night of the soul

came just before the truth

The sea birds with their feet tapping

made me know it could be done

This was just temporary

This good and bad, dark and light

stuff we are made of.

We clamor so loudly and the surf and sand

mute us accordingly and appropriately

healing is as much a realization as it is

a conscious act of the will
