The Housewrighter Wins Photo Contest

Winner in New Media Category

I am pleased to announce that The Housewrighter has won the New Media category of the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District Photo Contest. All of us here at The Housewrighter are excited to be selected because of our work with iPhone imaging. This shot, taken at The Russian Ridge Open Space Preserve was captured at sunset with the Pro HDR capture app, on my iPhone 5. Additional edits on Snapseed and refining using Lightroom. I am planning to build this image into a 24x36 on metallic paper, under 1/4" plexi. It would look very fine on your wall :-)

Stay tuned to The Housewrighter as we release our spring photo series this week. From sepia squares on the Pacific coast, to abstracts of coffee and sea-life, this has been a really exciting few months in photography.

Soon, we will announce a new resource for purchasing our images (framed, and in print).

Our prize for winning this category is a new handheld GPS (amazing for my terrible sense of direction while hiking) and cool little tripod.

In other news, our upcoming trips are on the books.

  • Denver/Boulder - July 23-28

  • Napa Aug 28 - Sep 1

  • Monterey/Big Sur Sept 9 - 12

  • Seattle and the San Juan Islands Sep 16-21

  • Tour of Texas - TBA

Thanks for reading and enjoy the week.

Housewrighter Highlights in iPhone Imaging

Happy Tuesday Housewrighted! I wanted to share a short video I built for my iPhone imaging class this past weekend at Miraflores Winery. I created this video with a fun, new photo app called PhotoMotion . It's fast, easy, and can make a pretty powerful video, all using just the iPhone or iPad. All of the images here were either taken with the iPhone or edited with the iPhone. The final  version of the video was completed on the iPad air (for ease of viewing). The class was big success, and we will be doing more group intro classes in the coming months throughout Northern California.

In the meantime,  if you would like to learn some of the techniques I use to create images, I urge you to fill out a contact form and sign up for one of my one-to-one classes.

Photo trip to Puglia - The Time is Now

Capture Images Like These

Only one week remains to join us for The iPhone and Puglia trip to Italy Oct 22-29. Click Here to See Trip Details.

The iPhone Puglia is an 8 day - 7 Night Journey with me, The Blissful Adventurer, and iPhone Photography Icon  Sam Krisch to the must-see region of Puglia, Italy. From October 22-29 of 2013 an intimate group of passionate travelers will experience the most authentic journey into the heart of Southern Italy. Equipped with iPhones, passion, and lots of local wine, we will document one of the last remaining realms of traditional Italian living. Southern Visions Travel, the most authentic operator in the region will be managing every detail for us on this trip, and trust me, they are the absolute best in the business

You will get to experience Puglia like Juliet and I have experienced it for years. You will explore thousand year-old olive groves, a 19th century converted fortress now making some of the best wines in Italy, and even hang out with local octopus fishermen cooking their morning catch just for you.

Each guest or couple will have their own unique apartment in the whitewashed hillside town of Locorotondo. Wine for a $1 a liter can be filled at the local shop, coffee aromas fill the air each morning giving way to the smells of fresh drying laundry under the bluest afternoon skies. You will eat, drink, and love like locals, while learning to create gorgeous images on your iPhone, worthy of the memories they represent.

We will dine together in local places serving food farmed, harvested, or raised often a few steps from the restaurant. We will walk in the footsteps of  Romans, Greeks, Saracens, Normans, and other Blissful Adventurers that have swooned under the languid days of luxurious life in Puglia.

Unlike any other vacation in Italy you will spend your time each days with an eye towards experience and creation. You will be seeing Italy the way it wants to be seen, and while there is a plan, there is no script. Your images will make this an experience completely your own.

The Beautiful Baroque of Lecce

I will be there each day shooting as well, eating, drinking, and laughing along with you. This is a vacation from the banality of of life and canned Italy tourism. Memories, built here in Puglia, will shape your travel lives for years. After my first time in Puglia I knew it would be hard to find its equal, and I have not.

Follow this link  for the full itinerary and pricing. Contact me directly at michael@blissfuladventurer.com with any questions, or feel free to fill out the contact form here on my site. We have limited spaces available and Sam, Juliet, and I would love you to join us.

Big Sur Sea Explosion

Sea Explosion

Big Sur Sea Explosion is the first image in my series of shots from a long weekend of exploration along the Pacific Coast from Monterey down to Big Sur. This wave caught along the drive through Point Lobos was over 15 feet in height when it crashed against this rock. The spray from the wave actually misted down upon me and the camera some 50+ feet from the image.

While the weather was not idea through the entire weekend I did manage to capture some strong images including this one which may be the best surf shot I have ever taken. This image was shot RAW on my Nikon D7000 using my 18-205 Nikkor Zoom lens. I processed the image on Snapseed and Lightroom. I urge you to click to see the image here full-size.

Happy Thursday Blissful Adventurers and welcome to Big Sur.

The iPhone and Creative Imaging Workshop April 13-14 in San Francisco - I will be hosting a wonderful iPhone imaging seminar taught by the amazing Sam Krisch this April. Click the link for all the details and we only have 8 spots remaining.

Fun Friday Photos

Fun Friday Photos is a new segment for me to show creative techniques and experimental photos that exude playful, whimsical, or dramatic twists on their original counterparts. I like the idea of sharing a bit of my behind the scenes work and I hope you all will enjoy telling me your thoughts.

Happy Friday everyone and enjoy the images.

Thanks for viewing these fun Friday photos!
